Mark Cecil is a writer based in Boston and a member of the the International Thriller Writers association. He recently had the honor of being selected as ITW’s first author in its Big Writer mentoring program. Mark is also Head of Strategy for the growing-at-light-speed social media initiative to help authors whose book tours were cancelled due to coronavirus: A Mighty Blaze.
Mark has taught about creative writing and the publishing industry at the The Writers Loft, outside of Boston, including his popular class “How To Write Your Novel Like a Movie Director.” He is an alumnus of Jenna Blum’s legendary Master Novel Writing Workshop at Grub Street. He has also studied Fantastic Fiction with Jeanne Cavelos at the Odyssey Writing Workshop, and recently completed training with the Racial Equity Institute.
The opening of Mark’s latest novel, THE THINNING, was recently featured in Embark Literary Journal. Mark occasionally writes for stalwart literary Web site The Millions, as well as for Grub Daily, the blog of Grub Street, which is one of the largest creative writing centers in the country. In his previous career, Mark spent 10 years as a reporter and editor, mostly for global news agency Reuters in New York, San Francisco and Boston. His last position was as the General Manager of a 50-person boutique media firm in Manhattan. Over his career, Mark has been a frequent speaker at live events, Webinars and seminars of every stripe. He doesn’t mind the spotlight, if you’ve got one.
Mark attended Brown University and University College London and originally hails from the heart of the commonwealth, Worcester, Massachusetts. He is parent to a number of wise cracking tiny children and lives with them, along with his dope wife, outside of Boston.
