Jennifer Udden joined the industry in 2010 as an intern at the Donald Maass Literary Agency, and within a year was representing her first clients. After the Donald Maass agency she worked at the Barry Goldblatt agency. She joined New Leaf Literary in the fall of 2019. Her list spans a wide variety of genres and age categories, from middle grade to adult, from science fiction to grounded contemporary stories.
On the adult side, she is looking for science fiction and fantasy of all stripes, especially stories with page-turning momentum and characters to die for. She’s also looking for literary thrillers (like client Chelsea G. Summers’ novel A CERTAIN HUNGER) and crime novels with a classic feel.
On the children’s side, she’s looking for middle-grade novels with a sense of intrigue (and a sense of humor), with strong characters and convincing worlds, as well as YA novels with strong world building and compelling storytelling.
Before working in publishing, Jennifer worked for a theater company as a fundraiser. She grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Mount Holyoke College, where she did her thesis work on class and anxiety in Golden Age detective fiction.
