I write serious nonfiction informed by provocative history and counterintuitive social science.
I am the author of Tough in Hate? The Cultural Politics of Hate Crime (Rutgers University Press, 2014) and articles in Writing on the Edge, Sport in Society, Qualitative Report, and Symbolic Interaction.
At Stanford University, I teach in the Program in Writing and Rhetoric and advise for the Notation in Science Communication.
I hold a BA in sociology and a Ph.D. in American Studies, with expertise in law and society.
To let go, I ride my titanium Bianchi road bike up into the hills above my current home base in coastal California.
